Wholly Committed

God has a great and wonderful plan that will be accomplished.  God works through His faithful children to fulfill His divine purposes.  God wants to work through each one of us.  However, we choose whether we will be a part of God’s eternal design or whether He will work through someone else.  Where do we start?

We must be consumed with God’s will with a Holy Zeal.  Some Christians loose their motivation, enthusiasm and fire shortly after their initial commitment.  Zeal must be renewed every day through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Paul told the Roman church, “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” (Romans 12:11)

Hands On BibleWe must be committed to God’s Word with a Holy Hunger.  When your soul is starving for God, you will do anything to be filled with His Word.  Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” (Matthew 5:6)  We must not only have an open Bible but an open mind to understand and an open heart to accept God’s will.  “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.” (1 Peter 2:2-3)

We must be dedicated to prayer with a Holy Passion.  Prayer releases the almighty power of God to work in our lives.  Without it we are empty, weak, ignorant and vulnerable.  Prayer opens our lives for God to work.  Paul didn’t dare live, act, speak or move without prayer.  He told the church, “Pray continually.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

We must love the Lord God with a Holy Heart.  When several things are competing for our heart the outcome is dangerous.  Both the Old Law and the New Covenant are summed up in “love the Lord with all of your heart.” (Deuteronomy 6:5; Matthew 22:37)  That doesn’t leave room in our heart for worldly, sinful or even selfish and personal interests.

God will do wonderful things today.  He will demonstrate His power.  He will reveal His plan.  Decide that you will open your mind, heart, soul, will to be an active part in God’s supreme work!

Uncommon Valor

It was great to be with the church family last weekend.  Robert and I enjoyed meeting many of you again and a few for the first time.  The Royal Oak church is blessed to have so many members who are committed to the Word, will and work of the Lord. The Bible class that I [...]

Right Stuff

On December 17, 1903 just outside Kitty Hawk, NC, brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright flew their first manned, powered aircraft for 12 seconds, over 120 feet.  It was an event that dramatically changed the history of the world.  Over the past century, the advances made in aviation must have exceeded the Wright brothers’ wildest imagination. [...]

Recycled Plastic

The slogan to preserve our environment has been “reduce, reuse and recycle.”  Many products today are made from used and recycled metal, paper and plastic.  This means that we’re purchasing someone’s trash from last year. In fact, we not only buy plastic trash in the name of “green”, we also pay for it with “plastic” [...]

Christmas

One of the common questions asked after Christmas is, “Did you have a good Christmas” and “Did you get what you wanted?”  Sadly, for some adults, the most important time of Christmas is getting the right present.  For other families, there are only shallow relationships among relatives.  Gifts, small talk, niceties and watching television are [...]

Frozen Assets Are Liquidated

Literally!  The only Ice Hotel in North America is located 30 minutes west of Quebec City in Canada.  The 30,000 square foot facility is constructed of 12,000 tons of snow and 400 tons of ice.  The four-foot thick walls are ice. So are the floors, ceilings, furniture and decorations.  Even the Beds are ice! The [...]

False Profits

As followers of Christ we must be committed to integrity, honesty and righteousness.  In recent years some financial records in Corporate America have been exposed.  With two sets of books, they’ve been proliferating profits, speculating on the stock market, minimizing mistakes and covering their cash withdrawals for personal spending sprees. In the business world the [...]

Continuing Education

This time of year continuing education may have a variety of implications.  We’re hopeful that our children in the school system are keeping up with their homework, major assignments and studying.  We expect them to be attentive in the class and diligent in their work.  Those away at college must be even more self-disciplined in [...]

Amazing Grace

This week our family saw the movie “Amazing Grace”, the 200 year old story of William Wilberforce and his fight against slavery in the British Empire.  At 21, he was elected to Parliament and spent most of his life in the abolition of England’s participation in the slave trade, which was passed in 1807.  Wilberforce [...]

It’s A New Year

On New Years Day the Royal Oak and Linwood Churches combined efforts to purchase, prepare and serve a hot meal to the homeless and poor of Detroit.  We saw a lot of appreciation by those who were fed and each one of the Christian servants were blessed.  From the Royal Oak church, there were 45 [...]
